Our Story
We’re two curious travellers who stumbled into hosting and never really left. What began as a side hustle alongside our day jobs in the development sector slowly became our full-time love language. What can we say, it gave us an excuse to go on “work trips” that included forest hikes, discovering soulful homes owned by even more soulful people, writing under a tree, and calling it all a job. A dream, right?
But as social workers at heart, something still tugged at us. We missed working closely with communities. We missed conversations about climate, culture, and change. So, Alt Homes became our way of bridging both worlds, the traveller and the changemaker. A conscious pivot, if you may, towards something slower, deeper, and far more fulfilling.
Why We Exist?
Because we believe travel should be more than a transaction.
It should feel like play. Like remembering your inner child.
Like unlearning. Like falling in love with simplicity again.
We exist to help travellers reconnect with the joy of the small and the wonder of the local, and to ensure that the people and places who make our journeys possible feel loved, seen, and supported.
What We Do?
We don’t just list homes. We handpick them, and more importantly, we handpick hosts. From green architects and urban farmers to design enthusiasts, each host brings a lived philosophy to their space.
Alt Homes partners with them to craft deeply personal, low-impact, high-touch experiences, where you might learn regenerative farming in the morning and cook over firewood by evening. You live as your host once dreamt of the space to be lived in. Think of us as matchmakers for people, places, and purpose.
